Have you ever seen the sea or an ocean from above? Maybe so. But have you ever seen the sea from the opened tailgate of an A400M? No?
Well, that’s exactly what we did during our Youth Ambassador event on February 7th, 2024.
The day didn’t go entirely as planned, but as always, we still had an amazing time. If everything had gone according to plan, we would have had an F16 intercept our A400M for an air-to-air shoot. Unfortunately, the weather gods weren’t on our side, and the F16 flight was cancelled. Luckily, the A400M is built to handle more challenging weather, so an alternative flight was arranged.
At around 15:45 local time, we took off from Melsbroek Air Base and flew all the way to the Belgian coast. Once there, the tailgate opened, and we had the incredible opportunity to admire the breathtaking views from above.
It wasn’t just the ambassador team on board—there was also a group of air cadets who joined us. Before the flight, we were given a guided tour of the airbase, which added even more to the experience.

Sadly, this event was also a bittersweet farewell, as it marked the last event for most of the 2023 Youth Ambassadors. I am incredibly grateful for all the wonderful people I’ve met over the past year, and I’m sure our paths will cross again.
